The Christchurch Tissue Bank is supervised by the Tissue Bank Board. The Board meets monthly as part of the Canterbury Cancer Network to consider any applications to use banked tissues, any ethics committee requirements, and the Tissue Bank Curators report. The Tissue Bank Boards role is to ensure stored tissue is used appropriately for research and in the best interests of the tissue donors. This is achieved by ensuring that all ethical requirements are met and that research projects are scientifically valid. The boards governing role includes responsibility for the physical security of the specimens and associated clinico-pathological data.

Members of the Tissue Bank Board include clinical and scientific representatives from Christchurch Hospital and/or University of Otago, Christchurch departments of Oncology, Anatomical Pathology, General and Specialised Surgery, Pathology and Haematology.
