The Comprehensive Cancer Centre is an initiative
conceptualised in early 2005 by members of the Canterbury
Cancer Network. Our mission is to facilitate a co-ordinated
approach to cancer control in the Canterbury and larger
South Island region, integrating clinical services, research
and patient support. Such a multidisciplinary approach
has already begun here with current focus groups, multi-disciplinary
teams and multi-centre teleconferencing bringing together
various professionals in the realm of Cancer Control. The
proposed Centre aims to build on this collaborative approach
and extend the spectrum of professionals brought together
whilst embracing more patient and public involvement. Such
a Centre with more linkages and interactions would foster
internationally competitive cutting edge basic, diagnostic
and clinical research.
